Manuscript Evaluation

What is a manuscript evaluation?

A manuscript evaluation is a high-level look at character development, plot, pacing, dialogue, genre, and other elements that are incorporated in well-told stories.

  • Does your story start off compelling but struggle to drive the reader through the middle, and you’re unsure how to fix it?
  • Have you had feedback that you have plot holes, but aren’t sure where they are?
  • Is something not working in your story or your characters feel flat?
  • Do you have a full manuscript, and want an evaluation to make sure it’s ready for other’s eyes?
  • Not sure if the story is tight and well-written?
  • Are you getting interest from agents, but not hearing back or not getting the response you want?

The cost of a Manuscript Evaluation package is $1600 for manuscripts up to 80,000 words and includes:

  • an editorial letter clearly outlining:
    • a prioritized, detailed list of action steps to make improvements
    • suggestions on possible solutions
    • the strengths of your story and writing
  • a 50-minute, one-on-one call with me to go over any questions on feedback, brainstorm, and make sure you feel confident moving forward in revision

*For longer manuscripts, price increases $200 per 10,000 words

**Prices are subject to change without advanced notice.

Benefits of having your manuscript evaluated

While having a critique partner or a friend read through your manuscript can offer feedback, often times you won’t get solid feedback that helps you identify exactly how to fix issues that may plague your manuscript.

Each manuscript I’ve worked on has been unique. Just the same, each story has been through a different level of refinement. Only you can tell the story that’s in your mind. I want to help you do just that through curiosity.

My feedback will incorporate questions that will:

  • help make sure gaps are filled in for the reader
  • develop characters who come across a little flat
  • help identify if you’re starting in the right place
  • help you know if your characters match with the character’s age and voice accurately
  • identify if a subplot is needed in the story or can be cut
  • include anything else that may need to be addressed to make your story shine

It is my goal that our conversation will focus around your questions of my feedback. Ultimately, I want you to feel confident in moving forward in revising your story.
